INSTRUCTIONS
FOR APPLYING FOR A
VISA TO VIETNAM
1.
A VISA to Vietnam can be applied
for
by mail
(the Embassy's complete mailing address is at the end of this page) or
in person
at the Embassy of Vietnam as early as six months prior to the date of
travel. The applicant must submit:
Ø
Original PASSPORT.
Ø One filled out visa application
form (If you cannot download the form, please try the alternate version
(Acrobat
Reader is required).
Ø
One (01) passport-size photograph.
Ø
Visa fee: Please pay by MONEY ORDER, or CASHIER'S CHECK,
or CERTIFIED CHECK made out to "THE EMBASSY OF VIETNAM." Please
email the Consular Section at consular@vietnamembassy-usa.org for
information on current visa fees or call the Embassy of Vietnam at (202) 861-2293, (202) 861-0694. Applicants applying together
may submit the fee in one money order.
Ø
A self-addressed postage-paid return envelope. For
the safety of your passport(s), please use only one of the following mailing
services which provide tracking numbers: Federal Express (FedEx), or
US
Express Mail, or Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation or Certified Mail.
Please do not use other mailing services. If you use Fedex, please make sure that you put your name, address and
phone number
in both sender's and recipient's boxes.
Applicants applying together may provide one envelope for visas to be
returned to the same address.
2.
Diplomatic and Official Visas:
Ø
Diplomatic and official
visas will be granted GRATIS unless otherwise agreed upon between Vietnam and the applicant's country.
Ø
In addition to the
documents specified in (1) the applicant must submit a note verbal or an
official letter from the relevant agencies of the U.S. government, foreign embassies or
consulates accredited to the U.S., and international organizations.
3.
Business Visas:
Ø
In addition to the documents specified in (1), the applicant must provide
an
approval obtained through his/her sponsor in
Vietnam. The Embassy will issue visas only
upon approval issued by the Immigration Department, Ministry of Public
Security in Vietnam.
Ø
If the applicant does not have a host/sponsor in Vietnam, s/he may contact the Embassy for
assistance.
4.
Processing Time:
Ø
Five business days are required to process normal visa
applications.
Ø Expedited processing requires
two (02) business days after the Embassy has received the application.
Ø
Please keep the tracking numbers of the envelopes to and from
the Embassy. When the above deadlines have passed, use the tracking
number to check with the mailing service first. Please do not make
telephone inquiries on the status of your application until after the 3rd business day for an
expedited case and the 7th working day for a regular case.
Ø The Embassy will be closed on Vietnamese and US holidays.
Please take account of the observed holidays (click here for a complete list) in planning for your visa application and
travel.
